U.S. Congressional Staff visits CITIC Foundation
On April 2nd, the U.S. Congressional Staff delegation visited the CITIC Foundation for Reform and Development Studies. The delegates were first warmly welcomed by the President of CITIC Foundation Mr. Kong Dan, while Former Chairman and President of The Export-Import Bank Of China, a member of CITIC Foundation, Mr. Li Ruogu gave opening remarks.
In the subsequent seminar, the delegation, CITIC Foundation members, as well as guest experts and scholars shared their views enthusiastically and offered insightful remarks that made for a meaningful discussion.

UCTPF Organizes U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation
On the early morning of April 1st, the delegates arrived at the Great Wall. The delegates not only witnessed the majestic Great Wall and the grandeur of the surrounding landscape, but also further understood the significance of the Great Wall in China’s history and culture.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Palace Museum.
U.S. Congressional Staff visits Hunan Officials
On the evening of April 3rd, the U.S. Congressional Staff delegation were warmly welcomed by the Vice-Chairman of Changsha Municipal People’s Congress, Mr. Yuan Liming. Ryan McConaghy, leader of the delegation, expressed his views that this trip widened their horizons, having been presented the opportunity to witness China’s modernization and experience the vitality of the Chinese society.
On April 4th, the delegation was invited to a discussion organised by Hunan Provincial People’s Congress’ Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee and the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, as well as Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Hunan and Hunan Provincial Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development of Hunan Provincial People’s Government. During the meeting, local leaders introduced the results of Hunan’s recent economic growth, development of the pillar industries, progress of poverty alleviation.
Among the delegation were those from North Carolina and Colorado, and these states have established sister relations with Hunan province. As such, Chris Carter, Chief of Staff of Representative Richard Hudson of North Carolina, as well as Brian Appel, Legislative Director of Michael Bennet of Colorado, gave a brief overview of their respective states, further learnt about the Hunan’s development from provincial leaders, and expressed their hopes to explore with the Chinese on how to engage in deeper level cooperation.
Visit to CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive
On the afternoon of April 3rd, the delegation took the high-speed train headed for Zhuzhou, a first for many of them! They spoke highly of this experience, sharing their surprise and delight that that the train was able to travel very quickly and smoothly.
At CRRC, Mr. Hu Yuewen, Deputy Chief Economist and General Manager of Overseas Market Sales, introduced the delegation to China’s railway technology development. The delegation learned how China overcame challenges through its unwavering determination and grit, pulling itself up from the bottom of the ranks and emerging as the forerunner of the world high-speed rail technology.
U.S. Congressional Staff visits MFA, CPIFA
On April 2nd, the delegation traveled to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of People’s Republic of China. Both sides exchanged views and insights on the challenges ahead for US-China relations.
Afterwards, the delegates were invited to a lunch session hosted by the Vice-President of CPIFA, Mr. Zhao Weiping. The delegates also had an in-depth discussion with many scholars on the positive development of US-China relations. They further expressed their gratitude to the Chinese hosts for their thoughtful and warm reception.
U.S. Congressional Staff Visits HNU, Yuelu Academy
At Hunan University, the delegation was given a friendly reception by the Deputy Director of the university’s International Office and was invited to join in a series of discussions with teachers and students.
Afterwards, the delegation made their way to the Yuelu Academy. Through this visit, the delegates gained a deeper appreciation of the values advocated by ancient Chinese scholars, such as inclusivity.
Delegation Tours Hunan Cultural Sites
On April 5th, the delegation made their way to Shaoshan, hometown of the first leader of People’s Republic of China, Mao Zeedong. The delegation gained an in-depth understanding of his revolutionary efforts.
Later, they headed for Orange Island Park as beautifully described in the poem penned by Mao himself.
That afternoon, the delegation arrived at Tongguan Kiln, seeking to learn about the pottery culture which has been in existence for more than a thousand years.
Visit to SANY
On April 6th, U.S. Congressional Staff delegation arrived at SANY Heavy Industry. Through first-hand interaction with SANY staff, the delegation gained a deeper understanding of China’s critical successes across different industries, including “Industry 4.0” and increasing industrial intelligence, among others.
