UCTPF Organizes U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation

At the invitation of US-China Transpacific Foundation, Daniel Ball, Deputy Policy Director of Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, led a delegation of twelve congressional staff on a visit to China from August 14th 2019 to August 22nd 2019. During their stay in China, they visited many institutions, organizations and cultural sites where they exchanged their in-depth views on US-China relations, international and regional issues of common concern with their Chinese counterparts.

 

UCTPF organized and facilitated this visit.

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits Charhar Institute 

At the invitation of Charhar Institute, the delegation attended a seminar on US-China relations on the afternoon of August 15th. Lv Fengding, CoChairman of the International Advisory Committee and Member of the National Committee on China-US Relations, Lu Shumin, Member of the International Advisory Committee and Member of the National Committee on China-US Relations, Jia Qingguo, Member of the Standing Committee and Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and other scholars also attended the seminar.  


The delegation was warmly welcomed by He Zhigeng, Secretary General of the Charhar Institute. After a brief introduction of the members from both sides, the delegation had an interactive discussion with scholars from Chahar Institute on the issues of bilateral economic and trade relations, intellectual property, scientific and technological development as well as US -China people-to-people exchanges. The insightful discussion improved mutual policy understanding between both sides.

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits Northern Heavy Industry Group and Shenyang Yuanda Enterprise Group 

On the morning of August 16, the delegation visited Northern Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as "NHI"). NHI is a key enterprise in reform of state-owned enterprises and revitalization of old industrial bases in Shenyang. In April 2019, NHI changed from a state-holding enterprise to a mixed-ownership one and entered a new stage of development. The delegation also visited the mining machinery and equipment workshop of NHI. This visit promoted their understanding of the current status, reform direction and future development path of traditional state-owned enterprises in Northeast China. 


On the same day, the delegation visited Shenyang Yuanda Enterprise Group, where the delegation had an in-depth discussion with representatives of Yuanda Group on issues like the relationship between non-public enterprises and the local government, tax reform as well as 
its staff’s quality. They also exchanged views on international competitiveness and future development plans of Yuanda Enterprise Group.

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits Dalian Urban Planning Exhibition Center 

On the morning of August 18th, the delegation visited the Urban Planning Exhibition Center in Dalian. The three thematic exhibition zones in the center enabled the delegates to further their understanding of the history background, current situation and future development of urban construction in Dalian.

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits Huaxin Cloud Data Center and Accenture Information Technology (Dalian) Co., Ltd.  

On the morning of August 19th, the delegation visited Huaxin Cloud Data Center in Dalian. Through the introduction by representatives from Huaxin, the delegation improved their understanding of the service standard and scientific level of Huaxin’s computer technology. They also gained more comprehensive insights into the development status of big data industry in China. 

On the morning of August 19th, the delegation visited Accenture Information Technology (Dalian) Co., Ltd. Representatives from Accenture introduced their business scope, core services and key technologies to the delegation, promoting the delegates’ understanding of the business environment and development status of American-owned enterprises represented by Accenture in Dalian.

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits Perfect World Education Institute  

On the morning of August 20th, the delegation visited the Perfect World Education Institute in Beijing. During the symposia, the delegation had an interactive discussion with young students on the topics of overseas study, game industry and ideal realization. The delightful conversation not only promoted the delegates’ understanding of China’s education system, but also benefited the Chinese students who participated in the event.

U.S. Congressional Staff Meets Officials of Shenyang People’s Congress  

On the noon of August 16th, the delegation visited officials of Shenyang People’s Congress and were invited to a lunch session. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Wang Jian, Vice Chairman of Shenyang People’s Congress Standing Committee. The two sides exchanged views on the economic relations between China and the U.S., the automobile industry of Shenyang, revitalization of Northeast China and other issues. Both sides hope to strengthen constructive cooperation in the future.

In the evening, the delegation visited officials of Foreign Affairs Office of Liaoning Province and were invited to a dinner session. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Liu Tianyu, Vice Chairman of Foreign Affairs Office of Liaoning Province. The two sides exchanged views on the recent international affairs.

On April 28th, 2017, the Foundation visited Senate China Working Group Chairman Senator Dan Sullivan from Alaska and discussed the topics regarding cooperation between US and China in green field projects and in developing energy resources in Alaska.

UCTPF Delegation dined with USCPF

On the evening of April 28th 2017, UCTPF delegation dined with the members of the US-China Policy Foundation (USCPF).  Both Foundations discussed ways of cooperation to promote the development of US-China relations.

During the dinner, UCTPF Vice Chairman Liu Zhiwei presented USCPF Chairman Wang Chi with a calligraphy works of “Lao Ji Fu Li” (translated as “aspirations and dreams defy time and age”).

The two sides exchanged views on the communication between China and the U.S. as well as the economic development of Dalian.

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits MFA 

On the morning of August 20th, the delegation visited the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. Both sides exchanged views on Sino-US relations as well as ways to manage differences and pursue mutual benefits. 
 

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits CPIFA 

On the evening of August 20th, at the invitation of Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, the delegation attended the Ceremony of The Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the People’s Republic of China and the United States and The Friendly Exchanges Between the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and the United States Congress. The ceremony was held in Beijing Diaoyutai State Guest House.

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits Shenyang History Museum of September 18th Incident 

On the afternoon of August 16th, the delegation travelled to Shenyang History Museum of September 18th Incident. The various exhibits in the museum enriched delegates’ understanding of the history of Japanese invasion, the tragedy of enslaved Chinese people and their courageous fights.

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits Zhao Mausoleum  

On the morning of August 17th, the delegation travelled to Zhao Mausoleum. As the tomb of the second emperor of Qing Dynasty, the magnificent Zhao Mausoleum is a typical mausoleum outside Shanhaiguan Pass during the early period of Qing Dynasty, which exemplifies the rich cultural heritage of Shenyang.

On the morning of August 17th, the delegation travelled to Shenyang Palace Museum. As the first palace complex of Qing Dynasty, Shenyang Palace Museum features Manchu style and the culture of Northeast China. The delegates enjoyed the rich collections and great elegance of Shenyang Palace Museum during the trip.

On the morning of August 20, the delegation visited National Museum of China. The rich collections and historical materials in one of the museum’s permanent exhibition “The Road of Rejuvenation” enriched the delegates’ understanding of the history of Chinese revolution and self-improvement.
