UCTPF Organizes U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation to Sichuan Province. Giant Panda, the National Treasure, Promotes Sino-US Cultural Exchanges.
On August 2018, Joshua Sheinkman, Democratic Staff Director of Senator Ron Wyden, led a delegation of fifteen congressional staff on a visit to China. During their stay in China, they visited many institutions, organizations, and cultural sites where they had many in-depth discussions with their Chinese hosts.
UCTPF organized and facilitated this visit.

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits CCIEE
The delegates visited China Center for International Economic Exchanges and exchanged views on the ongoing frictions between the U.S. and China as well as the future of US-China bilateral relations with invited experts and established scholars. During the heated discussions and conversations, the guests exchanged in-depth views.

U.S. Congressional Staff Visits Sichuan Officials
The delegates met and had lunch with leaders ofSichuan Provincial Office of Foreign Affairs. Joshua Sheinkman, leader of the delegation had a great conversation with Mr. Chen Wenhua, Vice-Chairman of Sichuan Provincial People’s Congress, where they exchanged views about the National People’s Congress system. Afterwards, Joshua Sheinkman discussed the differences between the National People’s Congress and the U.S. Congress to increase mutual understanding.
The delegates visited Chengdu CPPCC. Vice Chairman Mr. Yang Linxing gave a welcome address and exchanged views with the delegates to help them understand the role of the CPPCC in political consultation, democratic supervision and participation in and deliberation of state affairs, as well as conveying the varied views from different parts of Chinese society.
The delegates also visited AmCham Southwest where they discussed about American companies operating in China, which gave them a deeper understanding of US-China trade relations.



U.S. Congressional Staff Tours Sichuan Cultural Sites
During their stay in China, the delegates toured a series of cultural sites in Sichuan province.
The delegates visited Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and learnt about the pandas’ important role as China’s cultural ambassadors. In Deyang’s Sanxingdui, the delegates further explored Sichuan's history and culture as they learned more about the pre-Qin Dynasty Bronze Age. During their time in Sanxingdui, which reflects a history of more than 3,000 years, they were amazed by the long history of the profound Chinese culture.
The trip to Mianzhu New Year Painting Village brought the delegation into the artistic life of the Sichuan-Chongqing region and the spiritual world of the Chinese people. The “farm-stay”experience made them more in touch with the new rural life in China. In their visit to Mianzhu Jiannanchun Group, the delegates became acquainted with traditional Chinese wine-making that has a history of 1,500 years. To the delegates, this wine culture dating back to the Tang dynasty was a special historical journey.


U.S. Congressional Staff Visits the Mianyang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone
The delegates went to Mianyang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone where they visited many high-tech enterprises. The delegates were impressed by the comprehensive infrastructure, emerging technology industry and comfortable ecological environment in the development zone, and had a renewed impression of the “Made in China” model and industrial upgrading.
In the Sichuan Changhong Electronic Ltd Co, the delegation interacted with leaders of the company. As the largest television manufacturer in the world, Changhong owns a mechanized manufacturing line, giving the delegation a new understanding of China's high-tech development in recent years, as well as the ambition and responsibility of Chinese companies.
The delegates also visited theXinwang Bank, Sichuan’s first private bank invested by New Hope Group. As part of the new generation of Internet banks, Xinwang Bank uses data-driven services, embodying the new era of "Internet intelligence." The delegates were impressed with the service features of the bank and showed great interest and curiosity during the visit.


U.S. Congressional Staff Visits New Oriental School
The delegates visited New Oriental School where they had a candid and friendly conversation with Chinese youths. Through these casual conversations, the delegates gained a better understanding of Chinese youths.
